This is the declaration describing the context of this bill. Similar to that which just passed in Montana. Time is short here as the legislature will only be in session a few more weeks. Please, contact your representatives, Speaker Joe Strauss, Gov. Perry and Lt. Gov. Dewhurst. We must protect our right to bear arms from the insanity of the Obama admin.
DECLARATION. The Legislature of the State of Texas declares that a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition manufactured in Texas, as described by Chapter 2003, Business & Commerce Code, as added by this Act, that remains within the borders of Texas:
(1) has not traveled in interstate commerce; and
(2) is not subject to federal law or federal regulation, including registration, under the authority of the United States Congress to regulate interstate commerce.

Contest: A Logo for Independence Day
Hey, Tea Partiers!
Let's get together for a logo contest for our July 4th Independence Day Tea Party. How about a contest for the best logo to unify us in the Rio Grande Valley? Send your logo ideas to rgvtpassoc@aol.com.
The McAllen Tea Party chapter wants to use a logo for having yard signs,magnetic signs for cars and other things to advertise our Independence Day Tea Party. Let's pool our ideas to help each other make this a really fantastic Tea Party for Independence Day, whether you have yours on July 4th or another day.

ACORN Is Here In The RGV!
Someone was watching the evening news tonight @ 10:00pm on KNVO channel 48 (Univision).
Apparently, ACORN is starting to make their move in Hidalgo County by fighting for forclosed home owners in the Mission area. This movement will, no doubt, spread, since a lot of people are losing their homes. I wonder who will be their "savior... Obama, don't ya think???
ACORN will have a "counseling" group (Foreclosure Fighters) on KNVO channel 48 from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm on wednesday 6th phone 687-4848.

Independence Day Tea Party Planning Meeting
We had an exciting meeting tonight with about 25 people attending. Some couldn't make it, but are rearing to help. Many great ideas came forth tonight from so many people with lots of enthusiasm. We are looking toward a fantastic time for our Independence Day Tea Party. Below are the minutes of the meeting:
Chairperson Linda Moore called the meeting to order and asked Pastor Ron Smith to pray for the meeting. She then offered some ideas for discussion, such as a location and possible program suggestions. A date of July 4th for the Tea Party was discussed with suggestions of July 3rd a possibility because of the many events in the city of McAllen and surrounding towns for the 4th of July. It was moved and seconded that July 4th be the date to try for. The motion carried. The time for the event was then discussed. After a variety of suggestions and opinions, a motion was made and seconded that the time be set for 6:30 to roughly 8:30 pm with people being invited to stay to watch the City of McAllen fireworks. Motion carried. The name for the Tea Party was discussed with a motion and a second made for Independence Day Tea Party being the suggested name, in the event that the Tea Party had to be held on July 3rd or 5th. Motion carried and Independence Day Tea Party became the name chosen.
A location for the Tea Party was the subject of much discussion with people offering a variety of suggestions. Sandy Propst was designated to secure the location, which she agreed to attempt to do this week before our Tea Party Meeting on May 8th.
Many patriots gave valuable input as to what things should be done at the Independence Day Tea Party, such as selling t-shirts (Sandy Summers and Debbie McGyver), flags (Al Gatti), Constitutions & Declarations of Independences (Ludie Garcia and Roxanna Herring) and having "booths" that would be manned with people to give information/education to those that came by. Constitution and lobbying were two subjects mentioned in the discussion for education in booths. At least five membership tables (Brenda Gatti, Marilyn Rhyne, Debbie McGyver, Joanne Fraser, Larry Schneider) should be available to alleviate the long lines seen at the last Tea Party. Once again, the concesus seemed to be that whatever speakers we have should be "regular folks" and not "politicians".
Scott Carol will check on the possibility of joining the City of McAllen parade and on the possibility of renting a screen for projecting words to songs, while Gary Sage offered his projector to project the words. Mr. Sage also said he would check on magnetic signs that patriots could buy to put on their vehicles to advertise the Tea Party with a blank space below that would allow the date to change, so the sign could be reused. Larry Schneider said we should have yard signs made, as well, to advertise the event in our neighborhoods. It was suggested that one picture be chosen that could be used on the magnetic signs, as well as the yard signs, so people would recognize the logo and know that it was the Tea Party logo immediately.
Linda Moore announced that she has already bought some decorations we can use, and Wendy Soto and Al McGyver volunteered to be on the decorating committee. Linda also said she would be responsible for getting a flat bed truck or two, if needed, for the event.
A motion was made and seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.

Minutes for our April 24th Meeting
Interim President, Glen Hagenbach, called the meeting to order and asked Juan Cano to give the invocation. Orlando Perez lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. The President introduced the interim board members that were present: President Glen Hagenbach, VP/Sec. Sandy Propst, VP/Treas. Sonny Sparks, Orlando Perez, and Juan Cano. The President explained a little of the background of the beginnings of the McAllen Tea Party a little over a month ago. He said it was an amazing story of a lot happening in a very short period of time.
Under Old Business came a recap of the April 15th Tea Party rally with a report of 1200 patriots attending at Archer Park in McAllen and being potential members of the Rio Grande Valley Tea Party Association. Joanne Fraser reported a sign up sheet with over 1,038 people signing in for email updates. Sue Goldberg from Brownsville and Melanie from Harlingen reported the Brownsville Tea Party had over 700 people attending in the lower end of the Valley. The group did express the notion that this group needs to continue to be nonpartisan with an emphasis on being an American.
An update on incorporation requirements was given by President Glen Hagenbach as he explained the 501C(3), 501C(4) and PAC (internal) groups that would enable the RGV Tea Party Association to be able to function in compliance with the law.
New Business was begun with a call for a discussion of what's next with a Brainstorming session. Ideas ranged from boycotting such things as movies or businesses to programs to educate students and adults in our US Constitution. Many ideas were thrown out for discussion, including forums for discussion and education. Another topic under New Business was events or rallies for future events. By an overwhelming vote, it was moved, seconded and unanimously passed for another Tea Party rally to be held on July 4th. Linda Moore volunteered to chair the July 4th event with several patriots volunteering to join her group to organize the rally. Her group plans to meet on Friday, May 1st. Linda said she would notify her group as to when and where the group will meet. Another event is being planned leading up to Constitution Day, which is Sept. 17th. Roxanna Herring is chairing a group of people that will plan several events that will lead up to Constitution Day. Educational programs were mentioned with comments that education might need to be aimed at both children and adults.
